A Crash Course in Real-World Chaos: Tula’s Week with the Allison Homes Marketing Team

Recently, we had the pleasure of welcoming Tula for a week of work experience with our marketing team. From attending the launch of our new East Midlands office to visiting a live development site. She explored our brand, analysed social media trends, completed research, and even delved into how AI can support marketing – all while gaining a real insight into life at Allison Homes. Reflecting on her experience, Tula said:

Last week I had the opportunity to work with the marketing team at Allison Homes which was a fantastic experience that gave me a closer look at how the company brings its brand to life. Here is what I got up to:

The week started with a major highlight, not just for me but the entire business – the official opening of Allison Homes’ new East Midlands office. It was amazing to be there and get to see the impressive new space in person and hear from key speakers including CEO John Anderson and MP Amanda Hack and many others whose hard work made it all possible. The event clearly showcased the energy and dedication that underpins the company.

After a morning of excitement, I spent the afternoon diving into the companies’ brand guidelines and current campaigns, which gave me a strong understanding of how Allison Homes presents itself across all platforms, as well as completing my first research task on placemaking to see how housebuilders create a sense of community through their marketing.

On Tuesday the hands-on experiences continued. Equipped with a fashionable hard hat and vibrant hi-vis jacket, I had the opportunity to visit the new Manthorpe development site just days before its opening, where I toured the new marketing suite and beautiful show homes and saw how all the planning and branding comes together to create a great first impression for buyers.

Back at the office, I was then given the task of looking into how UK housebuilders used social media like TikTok for digital marketing, allowing me to then come up with my own creative video ideas for Allison Homes to stand out from competitors.

Throughout the busy week I also immersed myself into the world of work by sitting in on the many meetings that filled the teams schedule, from regional updates to monthly marketing meetings with external PR and social media agencies, where I learnt how complex and technical marketing really is- from tracking performance to adapting media strategies to optimise their work. It really was a “crash course in real world chaos” as it was described to me as – in the best way possible!

On my last couple of days, I got to work on some more competitor research, this time focusing on websites, where I analysed different promotional and persuasive tools used through imagery to offers, allowing me to spot trends, draw comparisons, and suggest ideas to help strengthen Allison Homes’ own online presence. I also explored the growing role of AI in marketing by working through a series of fascinating tasks given to me by the marketing team that introduced me to new uses of ChatGPT and helping me grow my knowledge of how it can support digital marketing and communication.

Spending the week with Allison Homes has been such a great experience as I’ve learned so much about marketing, from branding to social media and everything in between but what really stood out was how friendly, passionate and welcoming the marketing team was – they made me feel included from day one.

From this week of work experience, I am leaving with new skills, a better understanding of the industry, and a lot of appreciation for all the amazing people behind Allison Homes. Thank you to everyone for making it such a great week!

It was a pleasure having Tula on the team for the week, and we’re excited to see where her future takes her. Best of luck, Tula – we’ll be cheering you on!
